The Manhattan Fish Market (Telephone: 2449 9102 | Map) is an American style seafood  chain that recently opened its first branch in Oman in Al Athaiba.  The Al Athaiba branch is located next the last traffic lights on the 18th November Street right before the airport. It is almost literally right next to the traffic lights on the main street and cannot be missed.

The parking at The Manhattan Fish Market is not great, but still manageable. There isn’t much happening in this area of Al Athaiba, so you can probably park anywhere around the building even if you cannot find parking space in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is medium sized and remains relatively undiscovered. It is open for lunch and dinner with no break in between. We went for lunch at 3pm on a working day and the place was almost empty.

Manhattan Fish Market

The menu of the Manhattan Fish Market is quite extensive, it offers many different starters, soups, salads, pastas, grills, and seafood platters. The concept of the restaurant is like Chili’s/TGI Friday’s, but focuses on seafood and is a tiny little bit nicer.. but it is not a fancy if you know what I mean.

We decided to try the Stewed Tomato Mussels (RO 2.900) for the starter. This item had mussels cooked in a rich tomtoe sauce and came with baguette slices on the side. I found the mussels to be nice and light and I enjoyed the tomato sauce a lot, the baguette slices were also a nice addition and were great for dipping.

Instead of experimenting with different dishes, we decided to go for the signature dish of The Manhattan Fish Market which is the the Flamed Seafood Platter (RO 11.900) which came with battered fish fillets, oysters, jumbo prawns, calamari, and vegetables on bed of rice. I really enjoyed the food a lot, the sauces were nice and the fish and seafood were great. I found the portion to be perfect for two people. We were offered a spice dip with our platter which I also liked.

For the dessert we had the Mud Pie Madness (RO 2.500) which I thought was like chocolate mousse but harder. I thought it was alright, I did not enjoy the base, and I will probably try something different next time I go.

For the drinks I had a Citrus Mint (RO 1.800) which was basically slushed lemon and mint.

In total we ordered 1 starter, 1 platter to share, 1 dessert, 2 drinks, and 2 bottles of water. Our bill came to RO 24.310.

I thought that the food came super quickly (maybe too quickly?) and exactly as ordered. I did not have any issues with the service at the Manhattan Fish Market.

I enjoyed my time at the Manhattan Fish Market a lot and I liked all the food I had here. I am looking forward to going again to try out some of the other main dishes they have, especially the pastas as they looked good.

Has anybody been to this place? It is worth visiting if you have not been already.
